RFP: Mentorship Programs for Youth in Under-Resourced Communities – LAUNCH and EXPANSION Grants
Precipitating Issue(s): The challenges faced by families in under-resourced communities in the United States are complex and multi-faceted. Youth mentorship programs have been known to enhance youth well-being by providing them with a reliable adult figure whom they can relate to, confide in, and learn from. Muslim youth in the US face the same challenges as their non-Muslim peers. Adolescents are forced to traverse a myriad of social complexities, and being Muslim within this context adds additional pressures as they are impacted by numerous intersecting factors, such as race/ethnicity, family, peers, school community, and the socio-cultural environment they are living within. Mentoring programs create a safe space for Muslim youth to be themselves, learn, and grow with strong guidance and within a healthy environment.
TCIF is interested in supporting programs that demonstrate a plan to provide a strategic presence in the lives of youth, taking into account the unique needs of the community, and measured impact on youth and the community over time. Given the importance of sound and consistent presence in the lives of youth, TCIF aims to emphasize the essential nature of strong mentor training and alignment with the strengths and needs of the community.
TCIF is interested in supporting programs in two different stages of development through LAUNCH and EXPANSION. The LAUNCH grant is intended for organizations launching mentorship programs for the first time. The EXPANSION grant is for mentorship programs over 3 years old with a demonstrated history of impact. The two grant opportunities will offer grantees not only funding, but also opportunities for training, capacity building, and network access.
